STAN BERNARD, PRESIDENT
Stan Bernard, M.D., M.B.A. is the Founder and President of Bernard Associates, LLC. Dr. Bernard is nationally recognized as a pharmaceutical and health care industry consultant, speaker, and author. He has been featured on national television and in leading publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Business 2.0, and Business Week. Dr. Bernard has published over 60 book chapters and articles on pharmaceutical and health care topics. He currently writes the "Competition Column" for two different journals, Pharmaceutical Executive magazine and Pharmaceutical Executive Digest Europe. He has been recognized by PharmaVoice as one of "The 100 Most Inspirational People in the Pharmaceutical Industry," the only independent management consultant to be named.
Experience
Previously, Dr. Bernard served as a Principal in the Health Care and Pharmaceutical Industry Practice at A.T. Kearney, a leading global management consulting firm. Prior to joining A.T. Kearney, Dr. Bernard worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) Pharmaceutical Company where he held a variety of executive positions. Dr. Bernard served as U.S. Product Manager for the launch of the blockbuster cholesterol-lowering drug Pravachol, the first Bristol-Myers Squibb pharmaceutical product ever to exceed $100 million in any worldwide market in its first year of sales.

While at BMS, Dr. Bernard was the first person in the pharmaceutical industry to serve as a U.S. Managed Care Medical Director. As BMS Assistant Medical Services Director, he co-initiated and developed the first physician-based medical sales force in the United States. He was U.S. Director of Pharmacoeconomics, where he led the company's health and disease management programs. Also while at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dr. Bernard evaluated licensing and partnership opportunities in the Worldwide Licensing and Business Development Department and directed anti-infective medical operations and clinical trials as Assistant Director, Medical Operations.
Prior to joining BMS, Dr. Bernard served as a Senior Consultant for Mediq Healthcare Resources where he provided consulting services to hospital systems and physician group practices. From 1992-2002, Dr. Bernard served as an Expert Consultant to the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

From 1991-2005, Dr. Bernard served as a Senior Fellow in the Health Care Systems Department at The Wharton School of Business. In 1991, Dr. Bernard initiated the "Pharmaceutical Management" course at Wharton and taught in the course for fourteen years. He lectured in the course on a variety of topics, including pharmaceutical marketing, medical marketing, managed care, and pharmacogenomics. In 1999, he also initiated and taught for several years in the course "Health Information Technology." Dr. Bernard is the recipient of the prestigious Wharton School of Business Alumni Achievement Award for his contributions to Wharton and the health care industry.

Dr. Bernard has served on the advisory boards of several companies, organizations, and journals, including Pharmaceutical Executive and Medical Economics. He is a Board Member of the Dorothy Hersh Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides funding to New Jersey entities which service sick and disabled children. Dr. Bernard also serves on the Advisory Board at Morristown Memorial Hospital and on the Advisory Board of the Metro Chapter of the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association.
Education
Dr. Bernard received his M.B.A. in marketing and health care management from the Wharton School of Business. He received his Medical Degree from Baylor College of Medicine and is a licensed general practitioner. He received his B.A. in biology (with a concentration in genetics) from the University of Pennsylvania and completed additional coursework at Edinburgh University in Scotland.
